Fire from the altar

Isaiah6VisionTim Carter preached from Isaiah 6 this week.  He talked of sin that comes from our mouths and makes us unclean. When we read Isaiah 6, we know that we have an AMAZING Lord who can make us pure even through a dirty coal pulled from a fire, when we repent and obey God, and work hard to love and care for each other.

Isaiah 6

New International Version (NIV)

Isaiah’s Commission

6 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne;and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Steve introduces the story of the lost son from Luke 15:11-31. A story about home coming!

Thanks to Sammy for her powerful testimony about how God has been moving in her life (from 14:30 onwards!). Check out this talk to hear more about God, our Heavenly Father, a lost son who is welcomed home and an older son who has to confront his anger and resentment. There is something for everyone, we hope!

One vision, one purpose, one body, one Lord

At our service on Sunday 8th July, Steve talked about our VISION and our DNA;

D:elighting in GOD

N:urturing COMMUNITY

A:cting in LOVE

Steve ‘rounded off’ our series on Ephesians which has been running since January by looking at the theme of “Maturity”… personally and as a church.

He also drew together our thinking on vision (an update from the vision evening in March), “Getting in Shape” and “Lifegroups”. There has been a lot of thought, praying and sharing and this marks an important stage in the developing life of River Church. The Vision Evening in the Spring unfolded many ideas and thoughts on River Community Church. Please download the leaflet here which outlines the Vision for 2012. handout – after vision evening – May 2012 – what next

Songwords > >

In my weakness I find
That Your stringth knows no bounds
And in my loneliness I find
That the everlasting arms surround me

And even with this fragile heart
I find a place to rest here, safe where You are…

And I am falling into grace again
And I am running where mercy never ends
Lord I’m learning that your love can cover me
You are teaching me what a child is meant to be
